THE BASICS

This is the official web page for IRONDOC.......I'm a 30 y/o WM from Hotlanta, Georgia. Recently, I completed my first IRONMAN distance Triathlon. For those of you not aware of my sport, the triathlon is a combination of three consecutive races all tied into one.....usually swimming, cycling and running.. but it can include canoing, horsebackriding, etc......There are various distances for each part, but the grandaddy of them all is the ULTRA DISTANCE or Ironman race.........consisting of a 2.4 mile open water swim; a 112 mile bike ride; and a 26.2 mile run (otherwise known as a marathon). This is somewhat demanding race....and many people thought that I was crazy to attempt it.......However, running across the Finish Line 15 hours and 38 minutes after starting felt really cool.....and I made it to the medical tent under my own power!!!....

THE RIDE

Staying on your bike for 5 and a half hours is pretty grueling......and this bike course has you assend Mount Sugarloaf about 30 miles into the ride!......People may think that FLorida is flat....but let me tell you....THEY'RE WRONG......The final assent up the mountain was so steep, many people were walking their bikes.......but not me!!......

THE RUN
Someone asked me what was the hardest part of the race....I told him the last 1/4 mile of the swim, the last 30 miles of the bike, and the last 26 miles of the run....Imagine trying to run with 2 watermelons attached to your legs....that's how it feels to start the run section.....I have to admit that I did walk a good portion of the run..but I RAN across the finish line.... Now, just so you don't think I am shallow or only a jock....I also play piano, play with my english springer spaniel puppy, and I love the theater..........If you are interested in becoming a triathlete, or just wanna chat, send me an email........
